Can you see this?

Horror movie director Jordan Peele was on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in October 2024 and talked about his childhood Halloween costumes which ranged from a homemade Beetlejuice to an inspired "Poker Table" (complete with pretzels and Budweiser cans). Despite the ingenuity, he insisted "…I'm actually not as good at Halloween as you might think…"

I love, love, LOVE seeing the homemade childhood costumes of yesteryear.  And knowing that Peele would succeed in both comedy AND directing some of the best horror movies of the last 10 years (Get Out, Nope, Us) makes this peek into his upbringing THAT much more interesting.

Part of the transcribed interview from the October 10, 2024 appearance below.

Fallon:  I'm going to say that your name has become synonymous with horror and Halloween is coming up do you get into this--do you dress up for Halloween?

Peele:  I'm actually not as good at Halloween as you might think... like I do Halloween every other day of the year so on Halloween this is my day off.

Fallon:  I asked you to bring in some costumes of when you were a kid because you used to go for it.

Peele:  When I was a kid yeah so you can see where I started... so this is me I'm a poker table... I've got a plate of pretzels on my head and I got stuck in the stairwell of my home trying to get out to trick or treat.

Peele:  ... okay this was my half-devil/half-angel.

Fallon:  That's a that's a complicated costume.

Peele:  Yeah when your kid wants to dress like this you know you have problems on your hands.

Fallon:  This next one has a lot of nuance.

Peele:  Oh yeah that's Beetlejuice!  They didn't have the store bought Beetlejuice costumes in the day you had to find stuff in the garbage.
